Chunky Dainty Cable Knit Reversible Scarf

Medium weight yarn, 6mm needles, cable stitch needle, 4 place markers (Approx 340 yards of yarn, depending on the desired length) Finished width is approx. 6 inches. Chunky Dainty Cable Knit Reversible Scarf By Kathy Pieprzyk of York Avenue Studio

I designed this scarf to coordinate with my hand warmer design, and it was not as easy as it seemed, not just a flat version of the gloves. I wanted both sides to have the double cable pattern and tubular edges for a springy, reversible scarf without a front and back side. The center cables are offset slightly with more scarf stitches on the right edge than the left edge, which gives the scarf a detail of visual interest. Cast on 34 stitches. Rows 1 -6 K1, P1 ribbing. Row 7 K1, move yarn to front and slip one stitch as if to purl, move yarn to back K1, Place Marker, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, Place Marker, Move next 4 stitches to a cable needle in front, K1, P1, K1 P1, Move the 4 stitches from cable needle back onto left needle, K1, P1, K1 P1, move next 4 stitches to cable needle in front, K1, P1, K1, P1, move the 4 stitches from cable needle back to left needle, K1, P1, K1, P1, Place Marker, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, Place Marker, move yarn to front and slip stitch as if to purl, K1, P1. Row 8 K1, move yarn to front and slip one stitch as if to purl, K1, pass marker to right needle, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, pass marker to right needle, K1, P1 to next marker, pass marker to right needle, K1, P1 to next marker, pass marker to right needle, move yarn to front and slip one stitch as if to purl, K1, P1. Row 9-14 repeats Row 8. Row 15 repeats Row 7. Continue to repeat * Row 8 for 7 times then a Row 7 once * , until the scarf measures 60 inches or desired length allowing for the last 6 rows of additional K1P1 ribbing to match the starting Rows 1-6. Bind off. Weave ends. Tip: I enjoy knitting purl stitches twisted, and on the next row, knitting thru the back loop to untwist the purl. This method has a nice rhythmic motion.
